Asymmetrical Spinnaker |

|
The Larsen asymmetric spinnaker at half height is approximately the same width as the foot. This is called a 100% width spinnaker. The width of the spinnaker is expressed as the percentage of J (the distance from the mast to the forestay). Normally we design this as 160% of the J. These two parameters make for a stable and large spinnaker for use on cruising boats. The length of the luff of the sail is designed that when properly flown the tack is at the height of the pulpit. Small catamarans usually use a spinnaker with a half height width of 75% of the foot. These are very flat sails as the apparent wind is always very far forward (not much running). |
